The Thing Brothers Store, Tecate, 1912

The San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper archive historical photo pictures the Thing Brothers Store in Tecate at the turn of the century, just a few hundred feet away from the U.S.-Mexico border.

TECATE 1993 -- Jane Thing-Dumas relative, Frank Thing, is interviewed on San Diego County family history and published in The San Diego Union-Tribune.

While in the Army in Panama in the 1950s, Frank Thing's name attracted Attention. "Soldiers used to tease me about it," says the 60-year-old backcounty native.

But back home, his name is just a part of the landscape...
