MARIA de los ANGELES CARRILLO, Kumeyaay Indian Basket Weaver

Maria de los Angeles Carrillo, Kumeyaay, hand weaves Native American coiled juncus baskets, gift baskets and trays. Maria is famous for her large coiled rattlesnake juncus basket art. She does large custom made-to-order Indian "mission baskets" on commission and may include coiled rattlesnakes and butterflies in her unique California Indian tribal art designs.

Maria Carrillo lives in the Kumiai tribal community of San Jose de la Zorra, Baja California, Mexico. She supports her three young children through her Native American basket making work.
