The Sycuan Inter-Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation SITVR program is made possible through a federal grant and funding from the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation.

The SITVR program provides vocational rehabilitation and job placement services for Native American Indians with disabilities that impede their ability to aquire and maintain gainful employment.

SITVR MISSION STATEMENT:

The mission of the Sycuan Inter-Tribal Vocational Rehabilitation SITVR program is to provide culturally-relevant vocational rehabilitation VR services to Native American Indians with disabilities who reside on or near one of the 12 San Diego County Kumeyaay Indian reservations:

SITVR ELIGIBILITY:

Vocational rehabilitation services are provided to Native American Indians who reside on or near one of the 12 Kumeyaay Reservations in San Diego County. Prior to receiving VR services an applicant’s eligibility for the SITVR program must first be established. Candidates must have a physical, mental, or emotional disability that keeps them from maintaining employment, and have the distinct possibility that VR services will help them get a job or help them keep a job they may currently have.

Applicant must be one of the following:

  1. Applicant must be a member of a federal or state recognized tribe.
  2. Applicant must reside on or near one of the 12 Kumeyaay Indian reservations in San Diego County.
  3. Applicant’s physical or mental disability must cause substantial impediment to his or her employment opportunities.
  4. Applicant must require vocation rehabilitation services to achieve and maintain gainful employment.

All other applicants will be referred to the State of California Department of Rehabilitation.

SITVR encourages all Native American Indian residents that reside on or near a San Diego County Indian reservation to apply for SITVR vocational rehabilitation services.

  • Mental Illnesses
  • Orthopedic Problems
  • Seizure Disorders

  • Including any other physical or mental condition that limits gainful employment

SITVR REHABILITATION PROCESS:

The rehabilitation process involves a series of steps aimed at helping you get and keep a job based on your abilities. It is important to understand that each individual has unique strengths and challenges. The SITVR program wants to help you cope with or overcome a particular disability while improving your abilities for an occupation. SITVR is here to help people who desire to improve their situation through training, resources, guidance and counseling.
