VII KWAME PETROGLYPH

ROCK ART Series Photo & Caption by Kelly Washington

I took this photo of the rock at Vii Kwame, a sacred mountain for many of the Yuman tribes. I believe its English name is Newberry Mountain.

I'm not sure what the Kumeyaay beliefs are regarding this mountain.
Many of us consider it the point at which the Yuman tribes divided and went their separate ways.

It is also the point where Kwsthamxo (Maricopa belief) taught the people how to live with one another and how to make appropriate use of the environment.
