YUCCA BloomingPictured is a wild Yucca plant growing on the side of a mountain on the Pauma Indian Reservation in Southern California -- I'm not sure the exact species as there are about 40 different types native to greater San Diego area, but they appeared to be doing really well there growing naturally in the wild. I read these plants are pollinated at night by moths. These pics were shot well after sunset (the purple sky, soft detail) on a tripod (left side exposed at 1/8th sec at f/8) -- I used a bit of fill flash on the right image of the flowering top to heighten the natural daylight color and pop that flash provides. The trick to using a flash is not being able to tell it was used.... Photo, design: gballard.com |
