KUMIAI TRIBAL RATTLESNAKE

RATTLESNAKES

Kumeyaay California tribal basket weavers are famous and respected for their fine Native American coiled juncus basket art. The southern Kumiai Indian weavers of San Jose de la Zorra, Baja California, Mexico, are keeping this cultural tradition alive and their small Mecican tribal ejido is a nest of coiled rattlesnakes.

Pictured above on her San Jose de la Zorra rancho, Maribel Montes Silva displays a large juncus coiled rattlesnake basket she just finished for a commissioned basket sale, March 5, 2006.
