KUMEYAAY CLOTHING DRESS

Mariana Gomez, Kumeyaay, dances wearing her hand-made Kumeyaay dress, traditional clothing, including a dress, ribbon shirt, juncus pendant necklace, coiled juncus earrings.

Marianna Gomez made a matching Kumeyaay cultural outfit for her young daughter, Sholuk.

"Sholuk" is a Kumeyaay word that translates into English: "Lightning."

The Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian featured this traditional style of Kumeyaay clothing in their 2005 Campo band exhibit "Our Lives" in Washington D.C.
